Abstract

The so-called “serpentines” have often been studied by botanists (cf. surveys in Whittaker et al., 1954, and Gams, 1975) but their actual knowledge is far from being satisfactory, especially concerning Balkans, where for example those in Croatia have not been studied at all. On the other hand, studies on salt sprays are rather scarce and almost preliminary with few ecologixal details, and the most informative data on this topic are given by Boyce (1954); Clayton (1972); Doutt (1941); Edlin (1943); Malloch (1972); Moss (1940); Parsons, Gill (1968); and Wells (1939); concerning the Adriatic: Buljan, Marinković (1949); Gračanin (1934, 1935); Anderlind (1912); and recently Lovrić (1971a, 1971b, 1975a, 1975b, 1976, 1977a, 1977b, 1979, 1980, 1981a, 1981b, 1982a, 1982b, 1982c)., have given some data.
