Abstract
Intramammary infusion of Actinomyces pyogenes or Peptostreptococcus indolicus causes clinical disease in the non-lactating bovine. The severity of the infection is greater when an inoculum of both organisms is used. Infection has resulted from contamination of teat skin with A. pyogenes but not P. indolicus. The fly, Hydrotaea irritans, was shown to contaminate the teat skin with bacteria but no infections resulted. However, the number of A. pyogenes presented to the teat skin by each fly was very low.
