Abstract

Scaphocapitate syndrome is a rare, usually high-energy injury, consisting of fractures of the scaphoid and capitate with 180° rotation of the proximal capitate fragment. However, the spectrum of associated fractures of the scaphoid and capitate is much broader and is manifested with wide range radiological appearances, usually in the context of a greater arc injury. These injuries are frequently under- or non-diagnosed for a long time with adverse consequences. Careful physical and radiological examination can usually establish correct diagnosis, while in dubious cases the CT scan was found to be helpful. Open reduction and internal fixation is the treatment of choice.
