Il versamento pleurico neoplastico primitivo [1] è determinato dal mesotelioma pleurico maligno che, a meno di 50 anni dal suo definitivo riconoscimento e dalla dimostrazione del ruolo eziopatogenetico dell’amianto, resta un serio problema sanitario per la sua incidenza prevista in aumento almeno fino al 2020, con 250000 morti nei primi due decenni del secolo in Europa occidentale ed oltre un migliaio per anno in Italia [2].
