Abstract

Chronic otitis media is an infectious condition in the middle ear and mastoid bone. Symptoms depend on a number of factors related to existence of infection, existence of cyst of skin (cholesteatoma), pathological involvement of the mastoid bone, and perforation of the ear drum. There may be discharge, hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness, ear discomfort, pain, and rarely weakness of the face.
