Sebaceous Gland Activity in Atopic Eczema

  • Chapter
Book cover Handbook of Atopic Eczema

Abstract

In the skin of a patient with atopic eczema, a multitude of non-immunological factors are alterated compared with the skin of a healthy person [9, 15, 31]. The secretion activity of the sebaceous glands is one of these factors. This may further be of practical importance, as the therapy for atopic eczema partly consists in supplying the skin with lipids. The acknowledged facts on sebaceous gland secretion in the patient with atopic eczema are described herein.
