Zusammenfassung
Obwohl der Begriff des Events sowohl in der Unternehmenspraxis als auch in verschiedenen Wissenschaftsbereichen (z. B. Wirtschaftswissenschaften, Soziologie, Kommunikationswissenschaften) mittlerweile fest etabliert zu sein scheint, mangelt es bisher an einem einheitlichen Verständnis für diesen Terminus. Abgesehen von einigen Ausnahmen, die auch Naturereignisse und -katastrophen unter diesen Begriff subsumieren (vgl. Schreiber 2012, S. 8; Freyer 2011, S. 638f.; Bobel 2009, S. 60f.), liegt der kleinste gemeinsame Nenner offensichtlich darin, ihn zur Bezeichnung von Veranstaltungen jedweder Art zu nutzen. So finden in der Unternehmenspraxis zur Beschreibung des Geschäftstourismus Akronyme, wie MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events) oder MEEC (Meetings, Expositions, Events, Conventions), Anwendung (vgl. Rogers 2013, S. 21f.; Fenich 2012, S. xi; Freyer 2011, S. 96).
