Zusammenfassung
Die Pharmakotherapie von Erkrankungen basiert in der Regel auf einer homöostatischen Hypothese, die besagt, daß die Wirkungen, unerwünschten Wirkungen und Pharmakokinetik eines Arzneimittels unabhängig von seinem Applikationszeitpunkt innerhalb von 24 Stunden eines Tages seien. Jedoch schon 1814 beschrieb Virey in seiner der medizinischen Fakultät von Paris vorgelegten Dissertationsarbeit Tagesrhythmen beim Menschen und diskutierte deren Bedeutung für Gesundheit und Krankheit [Virey 1814]. Virey verwendete auch als erster den Ausdruck „l’horloge vivante“, um die Natur dieser Rhythmen zu charakterisieren. Seither wurden Tagesrhythmen oder 24-Stunden-Rhythmen oder circadiane (circa = etwa, dies = Tag, [Halberg 1959]) Rhythmen in den verschiedensten Funktionen des Körpers, so z. B. in der Herzfrequenz und in der Körpertemperatur, in Lehrbüchern der Physiologie und Medizin ab Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts beschrieben [z.B. Autenrieth 1801; Wilhelm 1809]. So beschrieb Autenrieth in seinem Lehrbuch der Physiologie, daß der Puls und die Körpertemperatur vom Morgen zum Nachmittag hin ansteigen und nachts wieder abfallen [Autenrieth 1801]. Heute wissen wir, daß nahezu alle physiologischen Parameter beim Menschen und beim Tier eine solche Rhythmik aufweisen [Übersichten s. Aschoff et al. 1974; Minors und Waterhouse 1981; Reinberg und Smolensky 1983; Lemmer 1984; Lemmer 1987; Lemmer und Labrecque 1987].
