Zusammenfassung

Obwohl bereits die zu den Pionieren der magnetischen Kernresonanz (NMR) gehörenden Physiker Purcell und Hahn [1] die ersten biologischen NMR-Experimente in den frühen 50er Jahren durchführten, Odeblad [2] und Jardetzky [3] bereits 1956 Beobachtungen an Blut und Erythrozyten vornahmen und Singer [4] schon 1959 Blutflußmessungen mit Hilfe der NMR ausführte, entstand erst ab etwa 1972 ein ständig wachsendes Interesse für die „biologische NMR“. Die NMR-Bildgebung (MRT — Magnetic Resonance Tomography) begann 1972 mit der Idee von Damadian [5] und 1973 mit den ersten Demonstrationen durch die Arbeitsgruppen um Lauterbur [6], Mansfield [7] und Hinshaw [8].
