The Aral Sea Crisis: A Great Challenge in Transboundary Water Resources Management

Transboundary Water Resources Management

Part of the book series: Nato ASI Series ((ASEN,volume 7))

Abstract

During the 1980s, the shrinking of the Aral Sea started to generate growing concern in public opinion in the West, mainly as a result of media coverage of the issue. Since then, numerous articles and scientific papers have been published, as well as a few monographs (such as UNEP 1992) and even entire books (such as Le Tolle and Maignuet,1993).

This paper represents the author’s personal views and does not reflect an official NATO position.
