Abstract

The electrical properties of metals are very sensitive to the presence of impurities, even in ppm amounts or less. It is therefore no exaggeration to say that the intrinsic properties of truly pure metals are still not known. In an ultra-high-purity metal with a residual resistance ratio RRR (≡ R 300 к/ R 4.2 к) of more than 100 000, the mean free path of conduction electrons reaches several millimeters at low temperatures. At the same time, the relaxation time is also enlarged. Therefore, unknown properties may possibly appear, especially in low-temperature electronic transport.
