Zusammenfassung
Die erste Beschreibung einer Herzkatheterisierung beim Menschen findet sich bereits im Jahre 1832 [11]: Der Berliner Chirurg J. F. Dieffenbach suchte nach einer „ungewöhnlichen“ Möglichkeit, das „durch dickes Blut angefüllte Herz“ eines Cholerakranken zu entleeren. Er öffnete einem Kranken die Armarterie und führte „einen elastischen Katheter durch das Gefäß einer ungefähren Berechnung nach bis an das Herz. Der Herzschlag wurde währenddessen deutlicher und beschleunigter“, und der Patient habe „dabei auch keine Qual geäußert.“
