Definition
A member of the group of brain tumors, the most malignant astrocytic tumor, composed of poorly differentiated neoplastic astrocytes with areas of vascular proliferation and/or necrosis. Typically affects adults and is preferentially located in the cerebral hemispheres. Glioblastomas may develop from low-grade diffuse or anaplastic asrocytoma, but most frequently they present after a short clinical history with no evidence of a less malignant precursor lesion.
