Zusammenfassung
Kooperationsbeziehungen erfreuen sich in der Biotechnologie schon seit langem einer großen Beliebtheit und haben das Bild dieser Industrie nachhaltig geprägt (Powell 1998; Powell/Brantley 1992). Übersicht 1 enthält eine Auflistung von zehn Transaktionen, die für die Entwicklung der Biotechnologieindustrie als besonders bedeutsam angesehen werden (Edwards/Hamilton 1998). Dieser Trend der Allianzbildung hat bis heute nahezu ununterbrochen angehalten, sodass auch im Jahre 2002 bereits einige große Kooperationen von erheblichem Wert geschlossen wurden (Littlehales/Jones 2002). So haben Genta und Aventis einen Deal über US-$ 480 Millionen abgeschlossen, während GlaxoSmithKline mit Nobex eine Kooperation über US-$ 283 Millionen eingegangen ist und mit Adolor eine Zusammenarbeit im Wert von US-$ 270 Millionen vereinbart hat. Der Schweizer Pharmariese Roche hat ebenfalls drei neue Kooperationen mit Isotechnika über US-$ 215 Millionen, mit Stressgen über US-$ 214 Millionen und mit Gryphon Sciences über US-$ 155 Millionen abgeschlossen.
