Zusammenfassung
Die Fähigkeit, Gefahren aus der Umwelt zu erkennen und zu vermeiden, ist für fast alle Lebewesen zur Verbesserung ihrer Überlebenschancen nützlich. Die Fähigkeit, Erfahrungen im Umgang mit der Umwelt zu bewahren und daraus zu lernen, erhöht diese Chancen. Menschen haben darüber hinaus die Fähigkeit, ihre Umwelt zu verändern; sie brauchen sich der Umwelt gegenüber nicht nur reaktiv zu verhalten, sondern sie können aktiv und zielgerichtet handeln. Dadurch können sie sowohl Risiken schaffen als auch Risiken verringern.
Die Arbeiten der Forschungsgruppe Decision Research, über die hier u.a. ausführlich berichtet wird, wurden von Paul Slovic weitgehend gemeinsam mit Sarah Lichtenstein und Baruch Fischhoff durchgeführt.
