Summary

Organometallics play an important role in radical chemistry. Thus, C,C-bond forming reactions via radical addition to π-bonds were developed using organomercury and organotin hydrides as mediators. Substitution of these metals by silicon offers new synthetic applications. Radical addition reactions of silanes with alkynes, alkenes, and ketones show remarkable stereoselectivities. Transition metals can also be used in radical chain reactions. In situ regeneration of the organometallic provides catalytic methods.
