Abstract

Prophylactic surgery has an important place in neurosurgery to prevent vital risks or prevent permanent neurological deficits. There are many neurosurgical pathologies in which prophylactic surgery is performed. Congenital diseases, vascular pathologies, craniospinal traumas, degenerative diseases, and tumors are the first to be emphasized, among the main neurosurgical pathologies that prophylactic surgery is performed.

Neurosurgical pathologies can be easily diagnosed with computed tomography, computed tomographic angiography, magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance angiography even if they have not caused neurological deficits.

When the patients published in the literature retrospectively are evaluated, it is seen that the best results are obtained in those who undergo early prophylactic surgical treatment.

Prophylactic surgical results are generally very good in a significant number of neurosurgical pathologies diagnosed early by radiological diagnosis methods.
