Abstract
Anesthesiologists have limited exposure to low-frequency, high-acuity events such as unstable trauma or cardiac arrest, and may benefit from hands-on education that utilizes simulated scenarios. Part-task training focuses on the acquisition of individual skills such as chest tube placement and endotracheal intubation, while high-fidelity training incorporates realistic clinical scenarios. In addition to the acquisition of technical proficiency, anesthesiologists can utilize high-fidelity simulation as a tool to build and teach communication and team leadership skills in critical care scenarios. Both part-task and high-fidelity simulation are integral components of simulation training for ACLS and trauma preparedness.
