Abstract

In Ancient China, the hydraulic tilt hammer has three types: the battery of hydraulic hammers, the spoon tilt hammer and the ship tilt hammer. According to the two cultural relics, the battery of hydraulic hammers had been invented in Han Dynasty. In the Northern and Southern Dynasties, an advanced system combing the battery hydraulic hammers and mill was been used. Since the Norther Song Dynasty, the spoon tilt hammer had begun to use. In the Ming Dynasty, the ship tilt hammer appeared, the structure of which is different from the ones in Europe. The hydraulic tilt hammer mainly hulls and pounds the grain, can also process porcelain clay, raw material of papermaking and incense.

  19. Li Genpan said that the fishing boat had set up tilt hammers according to a poem in Song Dynasty. See: Li Genpan. “The Origin and Development of Waterwheel”. Agricultural History of China, no. 4 (2011). It is obviously not possible because the sound of pounding is in conflict with the fishing
