Abstract
Mesenchyme-derived malignant neoplasms of the lung are rare, although virtually any type of soft-tissue sarcoma can occur in the lungs, ranging from tumors of low malignant potential to high-grade sarcomas. Among them, the most common tumors include inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, solitary fibrous tumor, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, and synovial sarcoma. Other rare primary mesenchymal tumors are angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and primary pulmonary myxoid sarcoma. Some of these tumors tend to occur in young adults and children, and several have typical clinical presentations and specific cytogenetic and molecular alterations like their soft-tissue counterparts.
