New Poly(Methylidene Malonate 2.1.2) Nanoparticles: Recent Developments

  • Chapter
Targeting of Drugs 4

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSA,volume 273))

Abstract

Among the different drug delivery systems which have been developed for the last several years, a few authors have proposed submicronic colloidal polymeric particles (nanoparticles) to improve the pharmacokinetic and tissue distribution of molecules holding a therapeutic interest (Couvreur, 1988). As shown elsewhere, for liposomes (Weinstein et al, 1984; Papahadjopoulos et al, 1984) and other soluble macromolecular drug carriers (Roche et al, 1985; Lemieux et al, 1992) nanoparticles have been shown to be effective in the treatment of certain experimental neoplastic diseases (Chiannilkulchai et al, 1989). Futhermore, it has been demonstrated that this type of vector could be useful in ensuring a better peptide delivery (Damgé et al, 1988).
