Photopolymerizable Silicone Monomers, Oligomers, and Resins

Radiation Curing

Part of the book series: Topics in Applied Chemistry ((TAPP))

Abstract

The past fifteen years has witnessed a tremendous resurgence of interest in all types of reactive silicone fluids. Imide functional siloxanes, urethane siloxanes, and a large array of silicone block copolymers are now well known and accessible by standard synthetic techniques.1–4 Research that had been previously limited to a handful of industrial laboratories, most notably General Electric, Dow Corning, and Union Carbide, has attracted the interest of the academic community as well as the interest of a host of smaller industrial organizations.5 This increase in interest in silicones has coincided with the developments in radiation-curable coatings and photopolymerization. Cross-fertilization of these two areas was inevitable.
