Abstract
Shea butter is a vegetable fat extracted from the nuts of an African tree, (Butyrospermum Parkii) and it has for centuries been known by the local population to have a soothing and calming effect on dry and sensitive skin (1). Due to the increasing number of reports of intolerance to synthetic sun protecting agents it is of interest to find and identify new “natural” sunscreens (2,3,4,5). It was the aim of the present study to compare two objective and one subjective method for classification the sun protective potency and compare it to commercial sunscreens.
