Abstract
Little attention has been paid to the influence of diffusion phenomena on nonlinear enzyme kinetics, although there is strong experimental evidence that living cells are highly compartmentalized and structured. Within a cell, the majority of enzymes are fixed reversibly or irreversibly onto membrane structures. Therefore, it is highly likely that diffusional limitations, mass transfer, and microenvironmental effects play an important role in the global behavior of cellular enzyme systems.
