Abstract

In the first volume of this book Koningstein1 treated the subject of laser Raman spectroscopy. In his article he described the development of the method to about the point where it became apparent that the use of lasers for the excitation of Raman spectra is not only equivalent to mercury lamp excitation, but far superior. The results which were obtained since then have fully justified this hope. They are so numerous that it is not possible to give a complete account of all published material in a relatively short article. Many results on the light scattering in crystals, including the electronic Raman effect, can be found in a conference report.2
