Nutritional Deficiencies and Excesses

  • Chapter
General Principles and Etiology

Abstract

Dietary derangement as an agent of teratogenesis has special significance in the history of teratology. The production of congenital anomalies by deficiences of vitamin A and riboflavin marked the beginning of the experimental stage of this science. Since then, these and other nutritional manipulations have served as valuable tools in the development of models, as well as providing information of intrinsic interest in relation to both basic and clinical questions.
