Abstract
Patients with bronchial asthma do not constitute a homogenous population. One group which can be clearly distinguished on clinical grounds is formed by patients who do not tolerate aspirin. Although such patients have been described soon after introduction of aspirin to pharmacotherapy, it was only recently that aspirin-sensitive asthma has been recognized as a distinct clinical syndrome. In fact the sequence of symptoms and the natural history of this syndrome are so characteristic that, based on large clinical observations, a typical or “classic” case has been constructed (Samter and Beers, 1968).
