Abstract
All syntheses that proceed from low-molecular-weight compounds (monomers) to produce high-molecular-weight compounds (polymers) are termed “polymerizations” (i.e., polyreactions). Polymerizations only occur when the appropriate chemical, thermodynamic, and mechanistic requirements are fulfilled.
