Novel Fluorocarbon-Based Injectable Oxygen-Carrying Formulations with Long-Term Room-Temperature Storage Stability

  • Chapter
Oxygen Transport to Tissue XV

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 345))

Abstract

The stability of the first generation of injectable fluorocarbon-based oxygen-carriers, exemplified by Fluosol® (Green Cross Corp., Osaka, Japan; licensed for Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty), is insufficient for convenient general use. It needs to be shipped in the frozen state, thawed and reconstituted prior to use; it must then be used within 8 hours.
