Abstract
For more than 40 years, California has maintained an extensive and expensive data gathering system to identify acute toxic effects of persons exposed to pesticides. The state has used this information in its registration, education, and regulatory programs to attempt to minimize or eliminate such adverse effects. Other states, countries, and persons use various parts of these data to estimate the extent of their possible problems. The major purpose of developing this paper was to identify the diverse characteristics of the data bases in existence so that future comparisons and extrapolations will have more validity than some of those made in the past. Most of these data can be found in numerous state government reports and not in published scientific literature.
