Abstract

Ultrasound is a useful imaging technique for evaluating chest diseases. The fact that air and calcium are poor transmitters of sound waves limits the effectiveness of ultrasound when bone structures and pulmonary air are present. However, even with these obstacles, many pleural, mediastinal, and even pulmonary lesions are accessible to sonographic study (1–3).
