Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Physics ((LNP,volume 579))

Abstract

A review of the present state of the art in Molecular Electronics is presented. The various ways used to connect a molecule to two electrodes are first described. Then using example involving C60 molecules, it is stressed that the metal- molecule coupling governs the transport mechanism. The experimental and theoretical investigx1ations on Metal-Molecule-Metal junctions based on especially designed molecules bearing clipping ends are then discussed. Finally, examples of devices are described.

‘Molecular Electronics’ is also used to refer to electronic transport in molecular materials. For this aspect, which is not covered in this paper, the reader is referred to ref [4],[5]
