Investigating mitochondria-immune responses in zebrafish, Danio rerio (Hamilton, 1822): A case study with the herbicide dinoseb
2022, Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part - C: Toxicology and PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Thus, the experiments revealed dinitrophenol herbicides can modulate mitochondrial respiration rapidly in embryos. However, dinoseb has also been shown to uncouple mitochondrial OXPHOS in vitro in mammalian hepatocytes (Palmeira et al., 1994; Palmeira et al., 1995) and cause metabolic disruptions in different fish species including Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) and Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) (Viant et al., 2006a; Viant et al., 2006b) implicating the mitochondria as a target. Despite its restricted use, dinoseb, like DNP, remains a model pesticide to probe mitochondrial OXPHOS and subsequent biological responses in fish.
